- GT bus evacuated after electrical short circuit.
- Incident occurred returning from IPL 2026 final.
- No players or staff suffered injuries.
An electrical short circuit forced Gujarat Titans’ players and support staff to evacuate their team bus in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, ending their IPL 2026 campaign in a frightening manner.
The incident reportedly occurred as the squad returned to their hotel after a five-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After a short circuit caused the bus to break down, smoke spread inside the vehicle, forcing an emergency evacuation.
Luckily, none of the players or support personnel were injured. The squad waited on the side of the road for a short time until another bus arrived and safely transported them to the hotel.
The event marked the end of a tiring and dismal evening for the Titans, who were unable to capture a second IPL championship. In the final, Gujarat managed just 155 for 8 before RCB successfully defended their title by chasing down the score with five wickets remaining.

GT’s hectic travel schedule sparks fatigue debate after final loss
The franchise had had a difficult few days, and the travel interruption was the most recent obstacle. In preparation for Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals on May 29, Gujarat traveled from Dharamsala to Mullanpur on May 27.
Due to terrible weather in Mullanpur, the team’s planned May 30 departure to Ahmedabad was considerably postponed, and they arrived in Ahmedabad late on Saturday night. The demanding schedule fuelled rumours that Gujarat’s lacklustre performance in the final match could have been due to exhaustion.

From final loss to bus breakdown: tough night for Gujarat Titans
Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki, however, declined to blame the team’s hectic schedule for the loss.
“I don’t want to take away from the fact that RCB have won by simply stating that we’ve had this number of games in these short days and we’re fatigued and that’s not really what we’re about,” Solanki said during the post-match press conference.
Although the former England batsman acknowledged that Gujarat’s score was below average, he praised the opponents for taking advantage of their chance.
“Admittedly, it was a below par total but they showed great fight to try and defend it. We might make an assessment of what we might have done differently, that’s a given. But I think you’ve got to accept that the opposition sometimes play well as well,” he added.
The short-circuit fear made sure that Gujarat’s return from the IPL final became an unexpected talking point on an already challenging night, even if their season ended in defeat.
