Matt Renshaw hit an unbeaten 89 from 52 balls as Australia beat Bangladesh by seven runs in Chattogram on Friday to seal the T20 series with a match to spare.
The left-hander combined with Tim David, who made 45 from 26, to drag Australia from 3-44 to 5-196 after Mitchell Marsh chose to bat first. Renshaw cleared the rope five times, while David added four sixes in a 97-run fourth-wicket stand that changed the shape of the second T20I.
Bangladesh threatened to chase 197 after racing to 1-72 in the powerplay, but Australia held on as the hosts finished 6-189. Cricket Australia reported that Renshaw also took the first Bangladesh wicket, accepting a return catch to remove Tanzid Hasan, before Nathan Ellis and Aaron Hardie helped close out the innings, according to Cricket Australia’s match report.
Renshaw Gives Australia Timely White-Ball Lift
The innings mattered because Renshaw had been short of runs earlier in the tour, scoring 18 in the first T20I after a difficult ODI series. His previous best T20I score for Australia was 65, so this was both a career-best and a series-settling response.
Marsh praised the Renshaw-David partnership at the presentation, saying it took Australia out of a “reasonably tricky position” and gave them a competitive total. The final T20I remains in Chattogram on Sunday, but Australia now lead 2-0 and have already secured the series.
