King Recall Threat Gives Australia Final Twist

Australia are weighing an Alana King recall for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final, adding a late tactical edge to the already live Ellyse Perry fitness call at Lord’s.

Captain Sophie Molineux said King is “certainly in the frame” after Australia’s final training session, with Perry also firming to play after testing her quad on Saturday. Cricket Australia reported Perry batted, bowled and moved through a fitness check, while Molineux admitted the selectors would still “look” at their balance before facing England.

King Option Changes Australia’s Spin Picture

The decision is not cosmetic. King took 23 wickets across the 2025 Women’s Ashes and remains a high-impact attacking option if Australia want another specialist spinner against an England side built around Nat Sciver-Brunt, Heather Knight and a deep left-right middle order.

That makes the final selection more layered than Perry-in or Perry-out. If Perry plays mainly as a batter, Australia can still lean on Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham and Molineux for spin. Picking King would sharpen the wicket-taking threat, but it could also squeeze either pace cover or batting depth.

England, meanwhile, have all 15 players available, with the ICC reporting that Sciver-Brunt came through the semi-final unscathed. That leaves Australia with the louder final call.

ReadCricket has already examined the Perry selection picture. King now gives it a harder tactical consequence.
