Beth Mooney Fifty Drives Australia Women Past 196 Against Netherlands At Southampton

Beth Mooney’s half-century has put Australia Women in command against the Netherlands at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton, with Australia reaching 196-4 after 17.5 overs in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Group A match.

The left-hander moved past 50 as Australia recovered from the wickets of Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry, before Ashleigh Gardner’s return added the punch the innings needed. Cricbuzz’s live scorecard had Australia at 196-4 after 17.5 overs, with Georgia Wareham unbeaten on 36 from 15 balls and Annabel Sutherland just in, according to the latest Australia Women v Netherlands Women updates.

Mooney and Gardner shift the pressure back onto Netherlands

Netherlands chose to bowl first under cloudy Southampton skies, but their early decision has turned into a survival test. Mooney’s control gave Australia a platform, while Gardner’s return from an ankle issue immediately changed the tempo through the middle overs.

That matters because Australia came into the fixture with two strong wins already banked, and another dominant total would tighten their grip on Group A. The Netherlands, still searching for a major tournament statement, briefly hit back through Caroline de Lange, but Australia’s scoring rate stayed close to 11 an over.

The chase will now demand something extraordinary. Australia have enough runs on the board to attack with Sophie Molineux, Kim Garth, Alana King and Lucy Hamilton, and Mooney’s innings has left the Dutch needing their cleanest batting display of the tournament.
