Nat Sciver-Brunt will captain England Women in their historic first Test at Lord’s against India Women this July after the ECB named a 15-player squad for the landmark fixture.
The match will be England Women’s maiden Test at Lord’s, giving Sciver-Brunt the distinction of becoming the first English woman to lead the side in the format at the famous ground. The squad blends senior experience with possible debutants, with Heather Knight included alongside Alice Capsey, Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Mady Villiers, Grace Potts and Ellie Threlkeld.
Potts and Threlkeld are both chasing a first England appearance in any format, while Capsey, Corteen-Coleman and Villiers are among the players hoping to make Test debuts. The update was confirmed in the ECB’s official squad announcement, which also listed Sophie Ecclestone, Tammy Beaumont, Amy Jones, Lauren Bell, Lauren Filer, Maia Bouchier, Emma Lamb and Issy Wong.
Lord’s Test Gives England A Rare Red-Ball Stage
The significance is bigger than one team sheet. Women’s Test cricket remains rare, and Lord’s staging England against India gives the format a high-profile platform in a summer already shaped by major women’s cricket events.
Clare Connor, the ECB’s managing director of women’s cricket, called it another historic few days for women’s cricket and said the players selected would understand the pride attached to representing England in the format.
For England, the decision now becomes how to balance proven Test know-how with the energy of new faces. For Sciver-Brunt, it is a captaincy assignment with genuine symbolic weight.
