Shorna Akter Helps Bangladesh Women Beat Pakistan Women By 23 Runs

Shorna Akter helped Bangladesh Women beat Pakistan Women by 23 runs at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, defending 123-6 to claim a vital ICC Women’s T20 World Cup win in Southampton.

Bangladesh chose to bat in Match 15 and were held to a modest total, but Shorna’s late 39 from 22 balls gave the innings enough weight before the bowlers turned the contest sharply. Pakistan were restricted to 100-8 from 20 overs, with Shorna named player of the match, according to the Cricbuzz match scorecard.

The result gives Bangladesh a timely lift in Group A and deepens Pakistan’s problems in a tournament where every net-run-rate swing now matters. For Bangladesh, the value was not just in the points but in the manner of the defence: a low total was protected with discipline, pressure and enough wickets to stop Pakistan building a late recovery.

Shorna Akter turns small total into major pressure point

Pakistan had the clearer target in front of them, yet the chase never became comfortable once Bangladesh found control through the middle overs. Reaching only 100-8 underlined how effectively Bangladesh forced the game away from Pakistan’s batters.

For a side trying to stay alive in a short global tournament, this was exactly the sort of result that changes the mood of a campaign. Bangladesh now have a concrete platform to build from, while Pakistan leave Southampton with another damaging defeat and little margin left in the group race.
