Thomas Rew Hits Unbeaten 133 For Somerset Against Warwickshire At Taunton

Thomas Rew hit an unbeaten 133 for Somerset against Warwickshire at Taunton, turning a likely three-day defeat into a far more awkward final-day equation for the visitors.

The 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batter produced the defining innings of Somerset’s second innings in their County Championship Division One match, finishing day three unbeaten after a composed counterattack. Somerset’s official match report from Taunton said Rew’s 133 not out was a career-best first-class score, with the hosts closing on 341 for six and leading by 219.

Rew’s second hundred in eight days changes the pressure

The context makes the innings more valuable than the score alone. Somerset had been under heavy pressure after Warwickshire built control of the match, but Rew and captain Craig Overton dragged the game away from a straightforward finish.

Overton was 89 not out at stumps, with the pair putting together an unbroken stand worth 193. That partnership means Warwickshire are no longer simply closing in on victory; they may now have to chase a meaningful target on a used Taunton surface.

For Rew, this was another major statement in a breakout month. A second County Championship century in eight days strengthens his reputation as one of Somerset’s most exciting young batters and gives the club a genuine chance of turning survival batting into scoreboard pressure.

The final day now hinges on how long Rew and Overton can extend the lead before Warwickshire begin their chase.
