Nat Sciver-Brunt will captain England Women in their first Test match at Lord’s after the ECB named a 15-player squad for July’s one-off meeting with India Women.
The selection confirms a landmark moment for England’s women, with Lord’s set to stage their maiden Test on the ground. Sciver-Brunt leads a group that mixes senior experience with several players chasing a first appearance in the format.
The ECB announcement named Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones, Heather Knight, Emma Lamb and Issy Wong alongside the new faces, with the match giving England a red-ball focal point after the wider white-ball calendar.
England hand Test opportunity to Capsey and Corteen-Coleman
Alice Capsey and Tilly Corteen-Coleman are both in line for Test debuts, while Mady Villiers could also play her first Test. Grace Potts and Ellie Threlkeld have been included with the chance to make an England debut in any format.
The ECB’s Managing Director of Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor, called the fixture “another historic few days at Lord’s for women’s cricket” in the squad announcement from the ECB.
For England supporters, the key point is not just the venue. Sciver-Brunt’s captaincy, Knight’s Test experience and the potential debut group give England a clear blend of authority and renewal before India arrive at the home of cricket.
