Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Left Out Of India ODI Squad For England Series

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been left out of India’s ODI squad for the England series despite his explosive 29-ball 94 for India A against Sri Lanka A.

The 15-year-old batting sensation had forced his name into the selection conversation with a blistering innings in Dambulla, but India have gone with a senior-heavy 15-player ODI group for the three-match series in England next month.

Shubman Gill will captain the squad, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav all included. Kohli’s selection remains subject to fitness clearance after his hamstring issue, while Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named as a potential injury replacement, according to the India squad update reported by Sky Sports.

Sooryavanshi wait continues despite record-breaking knock

The decision keeps Sooryavanshi on the outside of the ODI squad for now, even after an innings that underlined why he is already being discussed as one of India’s most exciting young batters.

India’s selectors appear to have prioritised experience for the ODI leg, which begins at Edgbaston on July 14 before matches at Sophia Gardens on July 16 and Lord’s on July 19.

For Sooryavanshi, the immediate message is clear: the acceleration is real, but India are not rushing him into the 50-over side just because one innings has captured attention. His next selection opening may come through the shorter format rather than the England ODIs.
