Suryansh Shedge has been called into India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England after Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out with a left quadriceps problem.
The BCCI confirmed the change on Tuesday, 23 June, saying Reddy reported discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on 20 June and has been advised to undergo rehabilitation following medical assessment.
Shedge’s call-up is a sharp reward for recent India A form. The 23-year-old made 147 runs in five matches during the tri-series in Sri Lanka and bowled 23 overs across the tournament, giving India another lower-middle-order option with some all-round cover.

The selection also reflects India’s need for balance while Reddy and Hardik Pandya manage fitness concerns around white-ball workloads. Shedge was a key figure in Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win in 2024-25, where the BCCI noted he scored 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 from the lower middle order.
That finishing profile matters before back-to-back T20I assignments in Ireland and England. With Reddy now out of both series, India have moved for a player whose recent output fits the role rather than simply adding another top-order batter.
The BCCI media advisory said the Men’s Selection Committee had named Shedge as Reddy’s replacement for both squads.
