England’s World Cup bowling core has picked up a timely rankings endorsement before the knockout pressure spikes.
The latest ICC Women’s T20I player rankings update has moved Sophie Ecclestone up one place to third among bowlers after eight wickets at the tournament, while Lauren Bell has climbed three spots to fourth.
India spinner Sree Charani still leads the table after taking 14 wickets at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, but England now have two frontline bowlers inside the top four as their semi-final campaign gathers pace.
England’s attack gets a rankings marker
The movement matters because it reflects more than raw wicket-taking. Ecclestone’s control has again given England a middle-overs choke point, while Bell’s rise underlines the value of early swing and death-over discipline in a tournament where margins have narrowed fast.
The ICC update also recorded gains for South Africa spinner Nonkululek Mlaba, Marizanne Kapp, Kathryn Bryce and Bree Illing, confirming how heavily the tournament has tilted towards bowlers able to attack without bleeding boundary balls.
Australia Women still carry ranking muscle through Georgia Voll, who remains top of the batting list, while there was also a notable all-rounder shift as Ireland’s Orla Prendergast jumped two places into joint third behind Hayley Matthews and Melie Kerr. For England, though, the immediate signal is clear: their semi-final route is being shaped by a bowling group peaking at the right time.
Charani’s earlier rise to No.1 set the tournament benchmark. Ecclestone and Bell have now made England’s answer impossible to ignore.
