Matt Fisher’s maiden ODI call-up has given New Zealand’s West Indies tour a sharper pace edge, with Jacob Duffy also returning to the BLACKCAPS squad.
New Zealand Cricket confirmed Fisher in a 16-man ODI group for the five-match series, which starts in Guyana on July 11 before moving to Barbados. The Northern Districts quick arrives with 43 List A wickets from 25 matches at 26, after already stepping into Test and T20I cricket.
Duffy Return Adds Proven Control
Duffy’s recall is just as significant. The Sir Richard Hadlee Medal winner missed the recent England Test series for family reasons, but his return gives Mitchell Santner a senior seam option alongside Fisher, Kristian Clarke, Ben Sears and Nathan Smith.
The selection also underlines how deliberately New Zealand are managing workloads. Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry and Will O’Rourke miss the tour after heavy first-half schedules, while Devon Conway is away with family and Rachin Ravindra is unavailable because of Major League Cricket.
For a side fresh from a statement red-ball win in England, covered by ReadCricket’s analysis of New Zealand’s series victory, this is a different kind of test. The Caribbean trip now becomes a live audition for Fisher and a reset point for Duffy before the next World Cup cycle hardens.
