Williams Final Call Gives Lord’s Officials A Clear Spotlight

Jacquline Williams and Vrinda Rathi have been handed the on-field roles for Sunday’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final between England and Australia at Lord’s.

The ICC confirmed its final appointments on Friday, with Kim Cotton named third umpire, Nimali Perera fourth umpire and GS Lakshmi installed as match referee.

It gives the showpiece a panel with serious tournament mileage. Williams is officiating at her fifth Women’s T20 World Cup and has already stood in a final, while Rathi now gets her first on-field appointment at this stage of the competition.

Lord’s stage raises the scrutiny

The decision also lands before a final with unusually clean competitive edges. England and Australia have both reached Lord’s unbeaten, turning the appointment into more than an administrative note.

For England, the backdrop is Nat Sciver-Brunt’s return-driven semi-final surge; for Australia, it is another title shot for the most ruthless side in the format.

That combination puts the officials under sharp focus. Williams’ experience across the opening game, England’s semi-final and Australia’s group win over India gives the final a familiar hand. Rathi’s elevation, meanwhile, extends the ICC’s wider move towards visible female officiating at the sport’s biggest women’s events.

The panel now carries one of the weekend’s least forgiving assignments: controlling tempo, review pressure and every marginal call in a sold-out Lord’s final.
