Richard Ngarava’s first ODI assignment as Zimbabwe captain now has a fixed shape: three matches against Bangladesh at Harare Sports Club, beginning on 6 July.
The ICC confirmed Zimbabwe’s 15-player squad on Friday, with Ngarava leading a group that also contains Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Blessing Muzarabani and recalled batter Innocent Kaia.
Zimbabwe turn Test surge into ODI reset
The timing is the point. Zimbabwe have just banked an innings-and-85-run Test win over Bangladesh, the kind of result that gives a new captain immediate dressing-room authority. ReadCricket covered that breakthrough in Muzarabani Burst Seals Zimbabwe’s Biggest Test Win.
Ngarava now has to shift that red-ball momentum into a format Zimbabwe have not played since last August’s 2-0 home defeat to Sri Lanka. Kaia’s recall adds a clear selection reward after his maiden Test century, while Brian Bennett and Ben Curran give the top order a more flexible look.
Bangladesh are not arriving light. The BCB’s ODI squad is led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and includes Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana.
That makes the series more than a post-Test encore. It is Ngarava’s first real 50-over leadership examination against a Bangladesh side carrying enough pace, spin and batting experience to punish any loose Zimbabwe reset.
