India have confirmed two squad changes, calling up Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi after hamstring injuries ruled Harshit Rana out of the England ODI series and Varun Chakaravarthy out of the T20I tour of Zimbabwe.
According to a BCCI statement released on Sunday, the Men’s Selection Committee moved after Rana reported “a sudden onset of discomfort” in his right hamstring during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge, with scans confirming a Grade 1 injury. The fast bowler misses the three-match ODI series that begins on Tuesday, 14 July, and will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for further assessment, as carried by Cricket Country. The changes cap a bruising weekend in which England’s 4-0 sweep cost India their No.1 T20I ranking barely a fortnight after they had claimed it.
Shubman Gill And Shreyas Iyer Count The Cost Of A Bruising Tour
Chakaravarthy’s setback is the more serious of the two. The BCCI confirmed an MRI scan revealed a Grade 2 injury in the spinner’s left hamstring, sustained in the same Trent Bridge match, ruling him out of the three T20Is in Zimbabwe on specialist medical advice. ESPNcricinfo reports leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi comes in as his replacement in Shreyas Iyer’s youthful Zimbabwe T20I squad.
Seamer Prince Yadav joins Shubman Gill’s ODI group, where Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remain the senior presence — and the uncapped quick features in both parties, having already been named for the Harare leg alongside teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
For Gill, Tuesday’s ODI opener is now about more than selection: it is India’s first chance to answer a white-ball tour that is yet to produce a win.
