Richard Kenyon to Lead Lancashire Cricket Review
Incoming chief executive Richard Kenyon will lead a full review of Lancashire’s cricket operation, the club has confirmed. The Richard Kenyon Lancashire review begins as he prepares to succeed Daniel Gidney as chief executive on 5 October. Kenyon arrives at Old Trafford after a decade at Everton and a 10 month spell at Nottinghamshire.
The appointment follows a difficult year for Lancashire across all three formats. Kenyon’s brief goes beyond the boardroom. It reaches into player contracts, club resources and the pathway that feeds the first team.
Storey Outlines Official Vision for Performance Overhaul
Lancashire chair Dame Sarah Storey set out the thinking behind the review. She spoke in the club’s official announcement. “Richard’s arrival comes at an important moment for the club,” she said.
Storey was clear about where Kenyon’s early focus should fall. “Among other items, as Lancashire Cricket’s new CEO, he will need to take a clear and objective look at our performance operation and what needs to change to improve results, particularly for our men’s side,” she said.
She added that ambition remains high across the club’s professional teams. “Everyone associated with Lancashire Cricket has high ambitions for our professional teams,” Storey said. “We must now take stock of what is needed to enable the teams to deliver across all formats, guided by the club’s recently published Cricket Vision.”
Performance Backdrop and Squad Impact Across All Formats
The review follows a season Lancashire fans will want to forget. The club finished second-bottom of Division Two in the County Championship. They also finished bottom of their T20 Blast group. In the One-Day Cup, they failed to reach the knockout stages.
There were bright spots along the way. Josh Bohannon’s recent century against Durham stood out, as did a memorable County Championship clash with Durham at Emirates Old Trafford. But those moments could not change the wider picture. Storey’s statement makes clear that improving the men’s side is now the priority.
The review also builds on a recent restructure. Director of cricket performance Mark Chilton and director of women’s cricket David Thorley have both left the club. The Richard Kenyon Lancashire review is expected to look closely at the setup they leave behind.
Timeline for Leadership Transition and Structural Changes
Kenyon officially becomes Lancashire’s chief executive on 5 October, when he replaces Gidney at Old Trafford. Full detail on the plan appears in the club’s official announcement, reported in this BBC Sport report. His review will cover the whole performance environment. That means staff and player contracts, the resources on offer, and the pathway from academy to first team.
No timescale has been set for when the findings will be published or acted upon. Lancashire have given no indication of further changes to coaching or playing staff beyond the departures of Chilton and Thorley already confirmed.
