England recall Rashid and Curran for Pakistan tri-series

Adil Rashid and Sam Curran have returned to England’s ODI squad after recovering from injury, with Jofra Archer rested for the tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. National selector Marcus North confirmed the changes as part of a 16-player group that also includes three uncapped players.

The England ODI squad for the tour of Pakistan brings back leg-spinner Mason Crane for the first time in eight years. James Coles and Henry Crocombe could make their debuts. Jos Buttler misses out after a hamstring injury against Sri Lanka last month, according to a Sky Sports report.

Marcus North Outlines Workload Management and Selections

North explained why Rashid and Curran are back while Archer steps aside. “Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return to the squad following their respective injuries while Jofra Archer has been rested to manage his workload following a busy summer,” he said.

North called the trip a valuable test for his group. “The tri-series in Pakistan provides another valuable opportunity for our ODI squad to test themselves against quality opposition in different conditions,” he added. Archer’s rest fits a wider pattern of carefully managing international player schedules across a packed calendar.

Rashid slots straight back into the spin-bowling attack he has led for years. Curran adds seam-bowling depth and lower-order runs, both qualities England have missed in his absence.

Tactical Impact and Uncapped Players Included

Three uncapped players feature in the squad, giving England a chance to assess fresh talent against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Mason Crane is the standout recall. He last played for England in the final Test of the 2017/18 Ashes.

North praised Crane’s domestic form. “Mason Crane has been performing consistently for Glamorgan across both formats during the summer,” he said. “He’s an experienced, high-class leg-spinner who thoroughly deserves another opportunity at international level.” His return gives England two front-line leg-spin options alongside Rashid, at a time when supporters have debated options to replace Adil Rashid long-term.

James Coles and Henry Crocombe round out the uncapped contingent. Coles offers left-arm spin and batting versatility, while Crocombe brings pace to a seam attack already featuring Curran. Both could debut during the tri-series if selected.

Upcoming Schedule and Coaching Staff Timeline

England’s coaching staff also shifts for this tour. Kevin Pietersen will not be part of the setup in Pakistan but returns to his role for November’s tour of Australia.

The tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka gives North’s squad an immediate chance to blend experience with new faces before a demanding winter schedule. Crane, Coles and Crocombe now wait to see whether their selections translate into England caps.
