Day two of the County Championship gave us plenty to talk about as several sides built big first innings totals through centuries and strong partnerships, while bowlers still made key breakthroughs at important moments to keep matches competitive, leaving a well balanced round with games nicely poised heading into day three.
1. Leicestershire’s Fightback
Surrey began the day on 412 for 6 and pushed on in search of a commanding total, but Leicestershire County Cricket Club did well to wrap up the final four wickets for 108 runs, with Jordan Clark contributing a solid 71. In response, Leicestershire showed real intent with a superb 156 run opening stand, setting the tone for a strong reply as Jake Weatherald made 96, while Rishi Patel will resume unbeaten on 133 with his side in a commanding position at 350 for 3 heading into the morning.

2. Procter scores big for Northamptonshire
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club skipper Luke Procter resumed on 133 and went on to a superb unbeaten 261 before declaring, with Northants piling up a massive 684 for 2 declared. In reply, Kent County Cricket Club slumped to 119 for 6 and now face a real battle to avoid an innings defeat, with the game already slipping firmly out of their grasp.

3. Glamorgan in Notts trouble
Glamorgan County Cricket Club began the day on 81 for 4 aiming to close in on Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s 279, but things quickly unravelled as they lost their final six wickets for just 32 runs to be dismissed for 113. Nottinghamshire then tightened their grip on the match, reaching 284 for 9 in their second innings to build a commanding lead of 450.

4. Warwickshire ahead at Hove
Sussex County Cricket Club began the day on 17 without loss hoping to build a substantial total, but Warwickshire County Cricket Club had other ideas as they bowled them out for 204. In response, Warwickshire have moved to 154 for 5, extending their lead to 217 with five wickets still in hand, with Ethan Bamber the standout performer with 3 for 47.

5.A tight game at Lords on the cards.
Middlesex County Cricket Club were bowled out for 183, just eight runs behind Worcestershire County Cricket Club on first innings, with Oliver Hannon-Dalby taking 4 for 45. Worcestershire closed on 200 for 7, leading by 208, but will feel they missed a chance to take full control after slipping from 184 for 2 to lose five wickets for just 14 runs, with Ryan Higgins impressing again with 4 for 53 to add to his three wickets in the first innings.

In the other games:
Essex remain in the hunt as they trail Somerset by 68 runs with seven wickets in hand in their second innings, while Hampshire are firmly in control against Yorkshire, leading by 167 with eight wickets remaining. At Old Trafford, Derbyshire are 116 runs behind Lancashire with seven wickets in hand in what looks a closely poised contest, but Gloucestershire are in deep trouble at 168 for 8, still 437 runs adrift of Durham and staring at a heavy defeat.
