The Pakistan Super League has taken firm disciplinary action against Zimbabwe pace bowler Blessing Muzarabani, handing him a two-year suspension that will keep him out of the competition until 2029. The Blessing Muzarabani PSL ban follows his decision to step away from an agreed move in favour of a more lucrative opportunity elsewhere.

The move comes after Muzarabani withdrew from a deal with Islamabad United in order to take up a contract in the Indian Premier League with Kolkata Knight Riders. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, the bowler’s actions amounted to “a fundamental failure to honour agreed-upon commitments” and risked undermining the “professional framework of the league”.

Why the Blessing Muzarabani PSL ban was enforced

Islamabad United lined up Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement for Shamar Joseph on a deal worth around PKR 11 million, approximately US$40,000. The franchise agreed terms with the fast bowler, but did not finalise a signed contract.

That gap allowed Muzarabani to reconsider when Kolkata Knight Riders approached in search of cover for Mustafizur Rahman. The IPL side tabled an offer understood to be four-times higher, in the region of US$160,000.

PSL statement sends strong message to players

In an official statement released to media, the PSL said the decision was aimed at protecting the league’s integrity. “The sanction serves as a necessary measure to safeguard the professional environment of the PSL,” the statement read.

It continued, “The PSL remains dedicated to ensuring that the league remains a platform where contractual certainty is respected and where the actions of all players and agents reflect the prestige of the tournament. The two-year ban reflects the gravity of the breach.”

How this compares to previous PSL disciplinary action

The length of the suspension sets a notable precedent. It is twice as severe as the one-year ban issued in 2025 to Corbin Bosch, who left Peshawar Zalmi to join Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement.

Muzarabani is not the only player to have been caught between overlapping franchise commitments. Dasun Shanaka had also agreed terms with Lahore Qalandars before opting to join Rajasthan Royals as cover for Sam Curran.

Blessing Muzarabani PSL ban impact on IPL form and KKR struggles

On the field, Muzarabani made an encouraging start to life in the IPL, claiming a four-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he has not featured since early April. Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, have endured a difficult opening to the campaign and remain without a win.

The Blessing Muzarabani PSL ban now adds another layer to an already complex season for the fast bowler, as questions continue over player availability across competing global leagues.
