Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has outlined his intention to return to Test cricket against Sri Lanka after claiming a five-wicket haul in the domestic President’s Trophy.
Domestic Resurgence Follows Contract Dispute
The 32-year-old represents Pakistan Television and secured his five-wicket return against Oil and Gas Development Company Limited in a drawn fixture. His red-ball resurgence follows a severe administrative dispute.
The Pakistan Cricket Board terminated his central contract after he withdrew from the Australia tour. A statement published by Sky Sports declared his absence “unsatisfactory” and noted severe consequences.
“Refusal to be part of Pakistan’s Test squad in the absence of any medical report or justifiable reason is a material violation of the central contract,” the statement read.
Rebuilding administrative trust remains complicated amid a deepening governance crisis in Pakistan. Speaking in a video released by his department, as reported by Hindustan Times, Rauf outlined his renewed ambition.
“I am trying to put my name forward for the Sri Lanka series, and Pakistan is also in need [of a fast bowler]. Let’s see what happens in the future, as there are quite a few games to go [in the President’s Trophy].”
Proving Physical Durability In First-Class Cricket
Rauf has featured in just one Test match, making his debut against England in December 2022. The seamer delivered 13 overs before suffering a quad injury while fielding.
As selectors balance diverse priorities, including the structural expansion of Asian Games 2026 women’s cricket, Rauf must maintain his fitness through the domestic campaign. Pakistan host Sri Lanka for a two-Test series in November.
