Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani expressed his view after his team’s sixth loss of the season. Delhi Capitals cannot afford any more mistakes if they are to have any hope of qualifying for the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs for the first time in five years.

After losing to Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets, the team is in seventh place after playing ten games of the ongoing IPL 2026. Delhi has limited time to secure a top-four slot and a postseason berth with only four games remaining in the regular season.   According to Badani, his team finished with 155 for seven, 2.3 overs to spare, and were overhauled.

“It’s crunch time for us. It’s more like a knockout tournament for us right now. We have to win ‌four in four to still have a chance to qualify. Everyone understands that in the dressing room and the dugout. Everyone knows that this is where we are now. ‌It’s as simple as perform or perish,” he said.

Delhi Capitals Had No Answer for Sanju Samson Batting

After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals chose to bat first. However, they collapsed to 69 for 5 wickets by the time of 11 overs. Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi’s partnership helped DC to put on a fighting total against CSK. However, the total of 155 runs on the scoreboard was not enough for the team to win the match.

The team made a strong start in the second innings by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, early. However, Sanju Samson stood firm and played a brilliant knock of 87 runs off 52 balls.

He, along with Kartik Sharma, built a crucial 114-run partnership that guided CSK to an eight-wicket victory. This marked the team’s fifth win after a difficult start to the season.

Hemang Badani Unhappy About Player’s Efforts

Meanwhile, the DC coach also felt that players were not giving enough effort in the match to defend the score.

“I thought the game was lost in the first 10 overs when we did not get enough. You can have multiple conversations about permutations and combinations, but when you ‌play good cricket, these things fall in place,” he added.

Delhi Capitals will next face Kolkata Knight Riders on 8th May at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The match will be crucial for the team to keep their playoff hopes alive and continue their push toward reaching the final in Ahmedabad.
