  • Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar powered GT to 168 for 5

Gujarat Titans surged to the top of the IPL table with a crushing 82-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad as their pace attack dismantled the visitors in ruthless fashion.

In a contest dominated by fast bowlers and awkward bounce, GT defended 168 for 5 with remarkable ease as Sunrisers crumbled for just 86 in 14.5 overs. It was Gujarat’s biggest win in IPL history while Hyderabad slumped to their heaviest defeat.

Kagiso Rabada set the tone with a fiery opening burst while Jason Holder cleaned up the lower order on a surface that grew increasingly difficult to bat on as the night wore on. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna added to the misery as SRH never recovered from a disastrous start.

Gujarat Titans 168 for 5 (Sai Sudharsan 61, Washington 50, Hinge 2-17, Sakib 2-37) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 86 (Cummins 19, Holder 3-20, Rabada 3-28, Prasidh 2-23) by 82 runs. View the full scorecard here.

Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar Rescue GT

Earlier, Gujarat themselves had looked vulnerable after stumbling to 34 for 2 in the powerplay. But B Sai Sudharsan once again underlined his importance with a composed 61 off 44 balls while Washington Sundar produced a sparkling late counterattack to lift the innings to a competitive 168 for 5.

The Ahmedabad pitch proved unpredictable from the outset. Deliveries gripped sharply, the new ball jagged around and timing remained elusive. Shubman Gill’s early dismissal reflected the challenge as the GT skipper miscued an ambitious stroke against the movement.

Pat Cummins quickly recognised the ideal approach and relentlessly attacked a hard length with movement away from the bat. Praful Hinge complemented him brilliantly after returning to the SRH side, dismissing both Gill and Jos Buttler to leave Gujarat under pressure.

Yet Sudharsan remained unflustered. Calm amid the chaos, he rotated strike smartly and punished anything overpitched. Nishant Sindhu chipped in with an energetic 22 off 14 balls during a valuable partnership that rebuilt the innings through the middle overs.

Cummins eventually broke through when Sindhu mistimed a lofted shot but Sudharsan carried on to register his sixth half-century of the season before falling to an attempted scoop. By then, Gujarat had laid the platform for a late flourish.

Washington seized that opportunity spectacularly. His inventive strokeplay against Eshan Malinga in the closing overs injected vital momentum into the innings. Scoops, wristy pulls and clever placement helped Gujarat collect crucial runs on a pitch where batting rarely looked comfortable.

Gujarat Titans Crush Sunrisers Hyderabad With Ball

At the halfway stage, the target appeared competitive rather than commanding. Rabada and Siraj quickly transformed it into a mountain.

The pair ripped through Hyderabad’s top order with relentless pace and precision. Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan all departed inside the first four overs as Rabada repeatedly struck the hard length at close to 150kph.

Abhishek dragged one onto his stumps while Kishan fell driving away from his body. Rabada’s aggression and control sucked the life out of the chase before SRH could settle.

Holder then ensured there would be no resistance. Mixing steep bounce with well-disguised slower balls, the towering all-rounder removed Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy before polishing off the tail. Prasidh Krishna maintained the pressure with sharp back-of-a-length bowling as wickets continued to tumble.

Gujarat Titans Look Like IPL Title Contenders

By the end, Gujarat had delivered a statement performance built on discipline, pace and authority. Back-to-back emphatic wins have propelled them to the summit of the standings and on current form, they look every bit the side to beat this season.
