  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scores 93 as RR beat LSG by 7 wickets.
  • The win takes Rajasthan to fourth on the table.
  • Mitchell Marsh dismissed in the 90s yet again.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ran riot with the bat as RR beat LSG by seven wickets. The win takes the Royals to 14 points and fourth place in the points table. As a result, Rajasthan are now in pole position to take the final playoff spot.

LSG, on the other hand, remain rooted to the bottom of the table in spite of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis scoring impressive fifties at the top of the order. Already knocked out of contention for the playoffs, Lucknow will play their final game against Punjab for pride alone.

Lucknow Super Giants 220-5 (Marsh 96, Inglis 60, Punja 2-35) lost to Rajasthan Royals 225-3 (Sooryavanshi 93, Jurel 53*, Mohsin 1-31) by 7 wickets. View scorecard here.

Yet another Sooryavanshi masterclass as RR beat LSG by 7 wickets

When the Rajasthan innings began, one could be forgiven for expecting stand-in skipper Yashasvi Jaiswal to be the star tonight. Jaiswal got off to an excellent start, scoring 16 runs off Akash Singh’s first over himself.

Sooryavanshi was on 5 off 10 halfway into the fifth over. And then something clicked. He dispatched one for six over covers from deep in his crease off Mayank Yadav, never looking back after. The 15-year-old spared no bowler till he was finally dismissed for 93 off 38, hitting seven fours and ten sixes during his stay at the crease.

Dhruv Jurel supported Player-of-the-Match Sooryavanshi well during their partnership. He then played a mature hand in seeing his team through, scoring an unbeaten 53 in the process. Mohsin Khan was once again the most impressive of the Lucknow bowlers, conceding 1-31 in his four overs.

Marsh dismissed in the 90s… again

It was deja vu for Mitchell Marsh as he was run out in the 90s for a second time in as many innings. Ironically, it was yet another run out as well. His stay at the crease was about as impressive as he has been during the second half of this tournament.

Initially the more passive partner in the opening partnership, Marsh got a move on once Josh Inglish got out. He hit 11 fours and five sixes before he was dismissed agonisingly short of another well-deserved century.

Before that though, Josh Inglis’ explosive knock at the top saw him score 60 before he was castled by leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja. Punja himself was the most impressive of the RR bowlers, finishing with 2-35 in his four overs.

However, it was some impressive bowling from Jofra Archer at the death, conceding just 15 runs from his final two, that restricted LSG to 220. If not for Punja and Archer, the Royals could have been chasing well over 250 to win this game.
