Perry Fitness Call Gives Australia Final Selection Edge

Australia’s final-day selection call has tightened around Ellyse Perry, with the all-rounder pushing to be passed fit for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final against England at Lord’s.

Perry came through Australia’s final training session on Saturday, according to cricket.com.au, after retiring hurt during the semi-final win over West Indies. That shifts the decision from availability to balance: if Perry is cleared, Australia can preserve their strongest middle-order insurance without stripping control from the bowling group.

King Recall Would Change England’s Chase

The sharper question is whether Alana King returns. Australia are considering the leg-spinner, whose wicket-taking threat would give Sophie Molineux another attacking option on a Lord’s surface where pace-off bowling can force England into risk earlier than they want.

That matters because England’s route to a home final has been built around Nat Sciver-Brunt’s control and a batting order comfortable absorbing pressure before accelerating. King would test that rhythm differently from a safer seam-heavy shape.

ReadCricket has already tracked Australia’s tournament depth, including Beth Mooney’s composed Southampton chase, but this is the first time their selection squeeze has become the story. Perry’s fitness gives Australia stability; King’s recall would give them edge. With the final carrying both trophy pressure and Ashes residue, England must now prepare for both.
