Lorcan Tucker Named Ireland T20I Captain For India Series In Belfast

Lorcan Tucker has been appointed Ireland Men’s permanent T20I captain and will lead a new-look squad against India in Belfast this week.

Cricket Ireland confirmed the decision on Monday, 22 June, with the two-match series scheduled for Stormont on 26 and 28 June. Tucker takes the role full-time after previous stand-in experience, while Ireland begin their next T20 cycle with a squad reshaped by injuries and opportunities for emerging players.

The 14-player group includes Ross Adair, Ben Calitz, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Stephen Doheny, Matthew Humphreys, Gavin Hoey, Matthew Hollard, Liam McCarthy, Jai Moondra, Harry Tector, Tim Tector and Reuben Wilson alongside Tucker.

Ireland turn to Tucker for a demanding India test

The captaincy call matters because Ireland are facing India with a depleted senior core. Josh Little, Mark Adair, Paul Stirling, Curtis Campher, Barry McCarthy and Jordan Neill are all unavailable through injury, leaving Tucker to lead a side with several players pushing for T20I breakthroughs.

Cricket Ireland framed the appointment as a long-term move, and Tucker said the role brings both privilege and responsibility, according to the official Cricket Ireland announcement.

For Ireland supporters, the immediate intrigue is whether Tucker can make the side competitive against the reigning T20 world champions while also accelerating the next wave before the 2028 cycle properly takes shape.
