India captain Shreyas Iyer will rotate his squad for Thursday’s third T20 international against Afghanistan in Delhi after securing an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
The hosts completed a seven-wicket victory at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday to render the final fixture a dead rubber. Sanju Samson underpinned the run chase, striking 57 from 22 deliveries to secure the decisive result.
Structured Approach To Bench Development
Despite Samson’s rapid scoring rate, the upcoming match allows management to integrate unused squad members. Teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is poised for an opportunity, reflecting a structured approach to managing forced squad adjustments rather than mere tactical tinkering.
The 15-year-old has been held in reserve during the opening matches despite his elevated profile, which stems partly from a corporate financial shield at domestic level.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times following the second match, Iyer explained his rationale for balancing series momentum with long-term squad depth.
“Definitely, we want all of them to get used to the wicket and get some practice, so it will be a good opportunity to give a chance to the guys sitting out,” he said.
Comprehensive Home Series Victory
The captain expressed satisfaction with the ruthless execution that delivered the series win over the tourists.
He added: “Looking at the last match and coming into this one, we were demanding a comprehensive win and today was a good one.”
The series concludes at the same venue on Thursday.
