Ellyse Perry’s 71 powered Australia to a 113-run win over Pakistan at Headingley on Tuesday, keeping the defending powerhouse unbeaten in the Women’s T20 World Cup group stage.
Australia were asked for a response after Beth Mooney fell first ball and they found it through Perry and Georgia Voll, whose 40 rebuilt the innings before the lower order pushed the total to 199 for seven. Pakistan’s chase then unravelled to 86 all out in 13.4 overs, with run-outs and middle-over pressure turning a difficult target into a rout.
The result was another statement from Australia, who have moved through the group with the sort of batting depth and fielding sharpness that usually travels deep into ICC tournaments. Pakistan, already under pressure in the table, were left chasing the game almost from the powerplay.
Perry Sets The Tone As Australia Pull Clear
Perry’s innings was the difference between a competitive score and an imposing one. She reached 71 before Fatima Sana removed her, while Voll’s 40 ensured Australia did not waste the platform despite Pakistan finding wickets through the middle.
Once Pakistan replied, Muneeba Ali’s 32 offered brief resistance, but Australia’s attack squeezed hard. Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Molineux struck late, while Perry also claimed key wickets as the chase folded. The Guardian live report recorded Pakistan all out at 86, sealing Australia’s 113-run margin.
For Australia, this was more than a routine win. It sharpened their net run-rate, protected momentum and underlined why Perry remains such a central figure when tournament pressure begins to bite.
