Virat Kohli has been included in India’s 15-player ODI squad for the upcoming England tour, with Shubman Gill named captain.
The ICC confirmed India’s squad details, with Kohli returning to the 50-over group after missing the Afghanistan series because of a hamstring injury. His availability is still subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI, but his inclusion immediately adds weight to India’s middle order for the three-match series.
Jasprit Bumrah is also back in the ODI setup, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan have been named as the wicketkeeping options. India’s bowling group includes Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Gurnoor Brar, with Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar leading the spin department.
The fixtures are set for Edgbaston on July 14, Sophia Gardens on July 16 and Lord’s on July 19.
Kohli return changes India’s balance
Kohli’s fitness caveat is the obvious watch point, but the selection still signals India’s intent to bring proven ODI authority into a demanding away series. Gill’s captaincy gives the tour a newer leadership feel, while Kohli’s presence offers experience around him.
The full squad and fixtures were listed in the ICC’s update on India’s England tour party, making this one of the clearest selection developments before the July series.
