Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s possible India debut has turned Friday’s first T20I against Ireland into more than a routine series opener.
The 15-year-old batter is in India’s updated squad for the two-match Belfast series, with Shreyas Iyer beginning his new spell as T20I captain. The BCCI confirmed Sooryavanshi in the Ireland group, while the ICC schedule lists matches at Belfast on June 26 and June 28.

Record Watch Frames India’s New Era
If selected, Sooryavanshi would move into rare territory as one of the youngest players to appear in senior international cricket and the youngest man to represent India. That places an unusual selection pressure on India: the story is historic, but the XI still has to function around Iyer’s first tactical statement as captain.
Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker has his own reboot to manage, but the spotlight is plainly on India’s batting order. Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma all compete for top-order space, so Sooryavanshi’s inclusion would be a bold call rather than a ceremonial one.
The immediate question is whether India chase the record now or keep the teenager in reserve until the second T20I. Either way, Belfast has become the first real test of how adventurous Iyer’s India intend to be.
