Gull Feroza Reprimand Deepens Pakistan’s World Cup Frustration

Pakistan batter Gull Feroza has been formally reprimanded by the ICC after a Level 1 Code of Conduct breach during the Women’s T20 World Cup defeat to Australia.

The ICC confirmed Feroza had also received one demerit point, her first offence within a 24-month period. The charge related to Article 2.2, covering abuse of cricket equipment, clothing or ground fixtures during an international match.

The incident took place in the second over of Pakistan’s chase against Australia, when Feroza was dismissed and threw her bat and gloves aggressively near the team dugout. The ICC said she admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Michell Pereira, meaning no formal hearing was required.

Why the sanction matters for Pakistan

The punishment adds another sharp edge to a difficult tournament for Pakistan, who were heavily beaten by Australia and have struggled to stay in the Group A race. It also lands in a campaign already being measured against the standards set by the stronger full-member sides.

Level 1 breaches carry sanctions ranging from an official reprimand to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, plus one or two demerit points. Four demerit points in a 24-month period are converted into suspension points.

Pakistan’s next challenge is to finish the group stage with discipline restored, while Australia continue to look like one of the clearest title contenders after another clinical win.
