Lucy Higham has given The Blaze a major retention win after agreeing a contract extension that keeps her at Trent Bridge until the end of 2028.
The club confirmed the deal in an official Trent Bridge announcement, locking in one of its most experienced domestic operators through the next two seasons.
Higham deal protects Blaze core
Higham’s value is not built on reputation alone. The off-spinning all-rounder has taken 48 wickets and scored almost 500 runs in 73 all-format appearances for The Blaze, according to the club’s figures.
That matters in a women’s county cricket structure still settling after its latest reshaping. The Blaze have preserved a player who understands the East Midlands pathway, the pressure points at Trent Bridge and the standards demanded inside a side pushing for silverware.
The Hundred move adds extra context
Head coach Craig Cumming described Higham as a leader on and off the field, pointing to her cricket intelligence and ability to shape games across all three disciplines.
The timing is useful too. Higham won The Hundred with Northern Superchargers in 2025 and is due to move to London Spirit for the 2026 edition, giving The Blaze a player whose franchise profile is still rising without losing control of her county future.
For a club trying to convert progress into trophies, this is exactly the kind of contract call that prevents churn becoming the story. Higham stays, The Blaze keep a senior voice, and the 2028 horizon now looks far more stable.
