Axar Patel reached 100 T20I wickets for India at Old Trafford, giving the tourists one hard selection fact to carry into Tuesday’s third T20I at Trent Bridge.
The left-arm spinner got there during England’s four-wicket win in Manchester, where India made 190 for seven before Jacob Bethell’s unbeaten 76 from 46 balls pulled the chase to 191 for six with an over unused. Match centres from Cricbuzz and ESPNcricinfo record the four-wicket margin and Bethell’s player-of-the-match hand.
Axar milestone sharpens India’s balance call
Axar’s landmark was not cosmetic. Reports in India credited him as the first Indian men’s spinner to reach the 100-wicket T20I mark, with Harry Brook his milestone wicket after the England captain’s 39 had threatened to take the game away early.
That matters before Nottingham because India are already nursing questions over the middle overs. Ravi Bishnoi’s no-ball damage was one visible pressure point in Manchester, but Axar’s record gives the attack a more stable left-arm option if India want control rather than another high-variance matchup.
Trent Bridge now carries greater weight
The BCCI schedule lists the third T20I for July 7 at Trent Bridge, followed by Bristol and Southampton before the ODI leg begins. England lead 1-0 after the washed-out opener, so India need more than a batting tweak.
Axar’s 100th wicket gives them a cleaner argument: keep the spin core around the bowler with proven T20I volume, then decide how much risk they can tolerate around him.
