Lucy Hamilton gave Australia the first hard break of the Women’s T20 World Cup final at Lord’s, removing Amy Jones inside two overs after Sophie Molineux chose to bowl first.
The official ICC live feed had England at 39/2 after the powerplay, with Jones gone for 6 and Danni Wyatt-Hodge also back in the pavilion.
Australia land the first blows
Hamilton’s wicket was a sharp final-stage statement. Jones drove early, Georgia Voll held the catch, and Australia had the hosts 7/1 after 1.2 overs.
Annabel Sutherland then deepened the damage when Australia reviewed a not-out call against Wyatt-Hodge. UltraEdge showed glove, Beth Mooney completed the catch after a juggle, and England were 32/2 in the fifth over.
That made Nat Sciver-Brunt’s role even more severe. England entered the final unbeaten, but the opening passage quickly shifted the pressure back onto their captain and middle order.
Molineux call pays early
Molineux’s toss decision looked clear: chase under scoreboard control and ask Australia’s seamers to attack a fresh Lord’s surface.
The call also kept Ellyse Perry in the contest from the start after Australia named an unchanged XI. England also stayed settled, with Sciver-Brunt leading a side including Jones, Wyatt-Hodge, Alice Capsey, Heather Knight and Sophie Ecclestone.
