ICC Names Bryce, Charani And Wyatt-Hodge For June Player Of The Month

The International Cricket Council has named Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce, India spinner Shree Charani and England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge as its three nominees for the Women’s Player of the Month award for June, each recognised for starring roles at the T20 World Cup.

According to the ICC’s official announcement, voting is open until 18 July, with fans asked to choose between a Scotland captain who inspired a maiden World Cup upset, India’s new No.1-ranked T20I bowler, and an England opener who rewrote the tournament’s record books.

Charani finished the World Cup as its leading wicket-taker, claiming 14 wickets in six matches at an average of 11.00 and an economy of 6.69, with standout figures of 4 for 19 against the Netherlands and 3 for 21 against Pakistan. She picked up at least two wickets in all five of India’s group games, form that had already carried her to the top of the ICC’s T20I bowling rankings during the tournament.

Bryce, meanwhile, scored 178 runs and took 11 wickets across seven T20Is, highlighted by a commanding 60 against Ireland in Scotland’s opening match, before her side’s tournament ended at the hands of New Zealand — the same opponents Wyatt-Hodge later dumped out of the competition.

Wyatt-Hodge’s nomination follows a tournament in which she became the first woman to pass 300 runs in a single Women’s T20 World Cup, finishing with 302 in total after an unbeaten 105 against Sri Lanka, a 65 against West Indies and an unbeaten 89 that eliminated defending champions New Zealand — continuing the surge that had already put her at the centre of the ICC’s award conversation weeks before the shortlist was confirmed.

The winner will be announced shortly after voting closes.
