Durham head coach Ryan Campbell has confirmed that Durham will pick bowler Carse until told otherwise, establishing a clear contrast with England’s disciplinary stance. Fast bowler Brydon Carse was removed from the national squad for the second Test against Pakistan following an off-field incident in Derbyshire.
County vs Country: The Diverging Responses
While national selectors quickly distanced themselves following the bowler’s brief arrest on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, Durham Cricket chose immediate inclusion. Carse featured straight away in their latest County Championship match against Gloucestershire.
Campbell acknowledged the fast bowler’s remorse regarding the national setup: “He feels he’s let the group down,” noting further, “The England team are trying to restart their whole way of going about it and he feels he’s let them down.”
Durham Will Pick Bowler Carse Until Told Otherwise
Explaining the county’s duty-of-care approach, Campbell underlined the importance of backing players through difficult moments. “I’m not going to stand here and say I’ve never made a mistake but what we can do is get our arms around him and make sure he doesn’t make those mistakes again.”
Police Inquiries and Regulatory Process
Derbyshire Police confirmed Carse was de-arrested outside a bar, with investigations into alleged assault ongoing. The Cricket Regulator has initiated a probe that remains dependent on the police inquiry.
On respecting official processes, Campbell stated: “[The regulator] is going to do their job, we’re going to listen to what they say,” and added, “When they give us a result, we’ll act accordingly.”
On-Field Impact for Durham
Carse responded immediately on the pitch, claiming 2-51 from 12 overs against Gloucestershire as Durham remain focused on competition while proceedings continue.
