Calls for tactical changes in indian team today have intensified after the drawn second Test in Colombo. Following Sri Lanka Salvage Fighting Draw After Sonal Dinusha, the Indian Cricket Team faced heavy scrutiny for failing to break down the Sri Lankan batter across two stubborn innings during the India vs Sri Lanka contest.
Tactical Lapses in Colombo Against Dinusha
Dinusha amassed 103 and 133 not out, batting across 426 deliveries. Despite clear indications that the left-hander avoided playing front-foot drives, India’s bowlers rarely sustained a full length.
Mohammad Kaif Slams Backroom Inaction
Former batter Mohammad Kaif criticised the extensive support staff for missing obvious technical cues:
“You are talking about India. It’s not a club match that you got late. A video analyst is sitting, a stats person is sitting, and six or seven coaches are sitting,” Kaif said on the Sony Sports Network.
He observed that previous dismissals had mapped the route:
“Saransh Jain had dismissed him with that after his hundred. Mohammed Siraj had bowled a full ball, and he left it because he doesn’t like playing the drive. He doesn’t like playing shots there,” he added.
Youth Bowling Inexperience on Day 5 Surfaces
Kaif noted that India’s younger bowlers lacked familiarity with fifth-day conditions:
“Our modern young bowlers play very rarely on such a pitch. They don’t play on the fifth day. A Test match doesn’t go that long. So they also don’t know how to tackle it, and we have not seen this batter. Assuming you get Joe Root, Ravindra Jadeja has bowled against him, so you can plan,” Kaif explained.
Changes in Indian Team Today Required Under Gambhir
Head coach Gautam Gambhir must now oversee tactical shifts to ensure unfamiliar opposition batters are quickly neutralised.
