Scriven and Davey secure crucial draw for Leicestershire

WICKET - Leicestershire Foxes congratulate Leicestershire Foxes Tom Scriven for the wicket of Notts Outlaws Kyle Verreynne during the Metro Bank 1 Day Cup Semi Final match between Leicestershire Foxes and Notts Outlaws at Uptonsteel Grace Rd, Leice

Leicestershire all-rounder Tom Scriven hit 54 in a record-breaking final-wicket partnership at Trent Bridge to secure a crucial County Championship Division One draw against Nottinghamshire. The visitors replied to a first-innings declaration of 451 for eight by making 365, largely thanks to a 106-run stand between Scriven and Josh Davey. The resilient pair batted for nearly two and a half hours on the final day, ensuring their side avoided the follow-on and thwarted the home team’s push for a result.

Record Tenth Wicket Stand Denies Hosts

Nightwatchman Josh Hull provided the initial foundation with a remarkable 97 on the third afternoon. Scriven and Davey then took charge when the visitors collapsed to 259 for nine, still 43 runs short of their safety target. Their eventual 106-run alliance broke a fixture record for the tenth wicket that had stood since 1933. Davey finished unbeaten on 49 after Freddie McCann finally dismissed Scriven to conclude the innings.

Relegation Battle Narrows At The Bottom

This resolute defensive action provides Leicestershire with genuine momentum in their bid to survive in the top tier. They leave Nottingham on 113 points, remaining in the relegation zone but sitting just seven points behind Yorkshire. Nottinghamshire batted again, reaching 178 for one before an afternoon handshake agreed the draw. Haseeb Hameed scored an unbeaten 109 from 109 balls against a spin-only attack deployed to prevent slow over-rate deductions. The championship campaign concludes on 27 September.
