Mike Hesson confirms Pakistan bowling overhaul for third Test

Pakistan interim red-ball coach Mike Hesson plans to overhaul his bowling attack ahead of the third Test against England in Birmingham.

England hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, which concludes at Edgbaston on 9 September.

The hosts secured victory at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs, before winning the second Test at Lord’s by 194 runs.

Adding Bowling Variety

Pakistan released seven players from their touring party following the defeat at Lord’s.

Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha departed the squad before Hesson formally stepped up from his white-ball duties.

The coach indicated that his priority is providing support for 36-year-old seamer Mohammad Abbas, who has taken 10 wickets in the series.

“From a bowling point of view, we have got to find some variety,” Hesson confirmed.

“Pakistan is known for pace, unusual actions, mystery spin. We haven’t really been able to present any of that,” he added.

“We need a little bit of an x-factor in there as well to try and create some opportunities to support Mohammed Abbas, who’s done incredibly well.”

Navigating Squad Changes

Hesson inherits a revamped squad featuring uncapped players, with Said Baig drafted in as an alternative stumper amid a separate recent wicketkeeper reshuffle at Trent Bridge.

The temporary Test coach stressed that he did not pick the original touring group.

“When this side was selected for this tour, I had no involvement at all,” Hesson said.

Away from the immediate fixture, administrators continue to explore a future arch-rivals series proposal for international assignments.

Pakistan will assess their new arrivals in the indoor nets before finalising the playing XI for Edgbaston.
