Zimbabwe Cricket has appointed Mark Coles as the permanent head coach of the women’s national team ahead of their T20 international series against South Africa.
The New Zealander takes charge immediately before the five-match home series begins on Friday at Queens Sports Club. The board moves away from the interim structure that managed the side during their initial ICC Championship tours to New Zealand and Pakistan earlier this year.
Path To The World Cup
The ongoing four-year cycle determines qualification for the 2029 World Cup. The calendar includes scheduled away fixtures against Bangladesh and India, whose men’s setup recently announced simultaneous fixtures this October. Home assignments will feature West Indies, Sri Lanka and Ireland.
Coles previously led the Pakistan and Scotland women’s teams, bringing high-performance standards similar to those seen when Sarah Taylor became the first woman to coach England. He assumes control over an established backroom staff featuring assistant batting coach Rangarirai Manyande and fielding coach Trevor Phiri.
New Selection Panel Member
Julia Chibhabha remains the selection panel convener, joined by new member Ishmael Senzere. The board also retained Travor Garwe to run the under-19 side alongside a dedicated technical team.
Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said the move builds on their historic championship entry.
“Women’s cricket is entering an exciting new chapter in Zimbabwe following our admission into the ICC Women’s Championship and it is vital that we have the right people in place to guide that journey,” Mukuhlani said.
The senior side next faces South Africa in Bulawayo this Friday.
