Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana will likely miss the upcoming Big Bash League season as the national board protects his fitness for approaching World Test Championship fixtures.
Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades have held contract discussions regarding the 23-year-old. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board intends to block any No Objection Certificate request for the winter tournament.
World Test Championship Commitments
The Australian franchise competition runs from 12 December to 26 January, directly clashing with the national calendar. Bangladesh face a demanding run of red-ball cricket, with series against the West Indies, South Africa, and England approaching.
Rana is currently rehabilitating a side strain that forced him out of the recent Test tour in Australia. The governing body is strictly monitoring his recovery, an approach reflecting wider efforts to build sustainable resources across both men’s pace reserves and Bangladesh’s spin depth ahead of major campaigns.
A board official confirmed they will heavily restrict the seamer’s franchise availability. “He (Nahid Rana) just recovered from an injury, and we need to keep an eye on that as well because his fitness and workload are one of our top priorities,” the official said.
Rana has already been omitted from the Asian Games squad. The board plans to reintegrate the bowler during a bilateral series against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates this October.
