Former New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult expects KL Rahul to determine India’s World Test Championship ambitions during their two-match series starting on 19 November.
The tour’s late-autumn scheduling places the fixtures outside India’s traditional February window, introducing the prospect of biting cold and green seaming surfaces. Rahul must adjust his top-order technique to survive a moving ball.
Adapting To Winter Seam Movement
Speaking to CricTracker, the 37-year-old highlighted the Indian vice-captain’s stylistic approach as a primary threat. “I’m always a big fan of KL Rahul and his style of batsmanship. So he’s a big player at the top of the order for the Indian side. And yeah, I believe Jaiswal is there as well. Two classy batters to see bat. So yeah, be interesting to see,” Boult said.
Just as Marufa Akter’s powerplay execution dictated early tournament exchanges, India must immediately neutralise a balanced New Zealand pace attack.
Pace Attack Offers Potent Balance
Boult warned the tourists about facing Matt Henry and Will O’Rourke in favourable bowling weather. “The only thing I can see happening is it’s going to be late October. I believe, just coming out of winter. So it’s going to be quite cold. Hopefully, there’s a bit of greenness in the wickets for some of our bowlers. It’s going to be a good series, I’m sure,” he added.
While domestic sides negotiate a county wicketkeeper transfer scramble ahead of the off-season, India’s settled batting spine faces a decisive overseas examination. The marathon 12-match tour begins on 22 October.
