Mohammad Rizwan demands answers from cybercrime agency over confiscated phone

Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan has formally demanded clarification from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency over his ongoing disciplinary summons and the continued retention of his confiscated mobile phone.

The investigation follows Pakistan’s 0-3 Test series defeat in England, where Rizwan and opener Imam-ul-Haq were removed from the squad midway through the tour.

The subsequent state scrutiny into alleged dressing-room leaks has highlighted a severe institutional conflict of interest. Mohsin Naqvi currently serves simultaneously as Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and the federal interior minister overseeing the cybercrime authority.

Demands For Institutional Transparency

In a written response delivered by courier, the 34-year-old pressed authorities for the specific allegations against him. “Why was I called by the NCCIA?” Rizwan asked, as reported by Hindustan Times.

“I want to know for what reason you are calling me,” he added, in correspondence detailed by Geo News. The batter has previously stated he is waiting for the process to conclude before addressing the media directly.

Board Maintains Internal Review

PCB security officials originally seized the players’ devices following the second Test at Lord’s before transferring the data to state investigators. A third unnamed cricketer has also been summoned as part of the widening financial and disciplinary probe.

Addressing the situation on social media, PCB director of media and digital communications Amir Mir outlined the governing body’s stance. “The Pakistan Cricket Board has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally,” Mir said, according to CricTracker.

The agency will continue evaluating the retrieved phone data and bank records while the players await their final disciplinary verdicts.
