Shreyas Iyer navigates squad reshuffles for second Afghanistan T20I

India approach the second T20 international against Afghanistan in New Delhi holding a 1-0 series lead while navigating forced squad adjustments.

Captain Shreyas Iyer must evaluate Sanju Samson’s position at the top of the order after a quiet 10-run outing during Sunday’s seven-wicket victory.

Teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waits in reserve after claiming the premier individual award during the recent Zimbabwe tour. The team management is expected to maintain their starting lineup to finalize preparations ahead of the upcoming Asian Games.

Scrutiny Over Opening Combinations

Abhishek Sharma secured his position alongside Samson with an 82-run innings from 32 deliveries in the opening match. Ishan Kishan also contributed 42 runs to ensure the hosts chased down 157 with 38 balls remaining.

Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran will exploit India’s top order after his own side collapsed to 43 for five inside the powerplay previously.

Forced Bowling Attack Adjustments

The hosts must evaluate bowling vulnerabilities following two confirmed withdrawals from their initial squad. Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy misses the remainder of the series due to a side strain.

His absence compounds the earlier departure of fast bowler Harshit Rana, who suffered a rectus femoris strain before the opening match. Yash Thakur has joined the squad as a direct replacement to provide pace cover.

The second fixture takes place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday evening.
