- CSK win by 23 runs
- Samson scores first IPL century
- Delhi lose two in a row
Chennai Super Kings secured their first win of this season’s Indian Premier League with a convincing 23 run victory over Delhi Capitals, powered by two standout performances that proved decisive in getting their campaign up and running.
Samson strongarms Delhi bowling
Sanju Samson batted through the 20 overs, and scored his first IPL century with 115* off just 56 balls, with 15 fours and four sixes. Ayush Mhatre retired out on 56 from 36 balls. Samson is now 9th in the race for the Orange Cap with a total of 137 runs. Mhatre is in 10th with 133 runs.
Overton leads the attack
Jamie Overton moved into 10th in the race for the Purple Cap, taking 4-18 from his four overs. He now has five wickets in the tournament, and will look to get plenty more as the tournament goes on. His teammate Anshul Kamboj took 3-35 to move himself into second with eight wickets.
Delhi lose two in a row
The Capitals have now lost two games in a row. After winning their first two games by six wickets, their two loses are by a combined 24 runs. Today Tristan Stubbs scored 60 off 38 balls, but other than Pathum Nissanka with 41 off 24 balls, no one stayed around long enough to win the game.
Next Games
Chennai’s next game is on Tuesday 14th against bottom side Kolkata Knight Riders, a chance for another win and a move up from ninth. Fourth place Delhi Capitals play next Saturday (18th) against third place Royal Challengers Bengaluru in what should be a cracking game.
