Milestones in T20 cricket rarely come quietly, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s latest achievement is no exception. The experienced seamer etched his name further into the record books on Thursday, becoming the first fast bowler to reach 350 T20 wickets. The 36 year old finished with figures of 3-28, even as Royal Challengers Bengaluru fell to defeat against Gujarat Titans.

Purple Cap holder

Kumar is the current holder of the Purple Cap. He has 17 wickets in nine matches, at an average of 15.52 and an economy rate of 7.54, including best figures of 3-5. Eshan Malinga is second with 15 wickets. Jofra Archer, Anshul Kamboj and Kagiso Rabada have 14 wickets each.

He is central to Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s attack, and with the side currently sitting second, he remains one of the most dangerous players in the IPL. RCB now have a week’s break before their next fixture, when they travel to face Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday 7 May.

Career so far

Kumar became only the second Indian to reach that milestone as well, again behind Chalal (391 wickets). In his 352 wickets, he has taken four wickets five times, and a five wicket haul five times. The highest T20 wicket taker is Rashid Khan, who has a massive 712 wickets in 523 innings.

Kumar has played 199 IPL matches in his career, and has taken 215 wickets at an average of 26.4, taking four wickets twice, as well as two five wicket hauls. He is the second-best bowler in IPL history, behind Punjab Kings’ Yuzvendra Chalal with 228. Third in the list is Sunil Narine with 199 wickets.

Kumar also has 90 International T20 wickets at 23.10. He has played 21 tests for India, taking 63 wickets at 26.09, and 141 ODI wickets in 121 games.

As RCB continue their push at the top end of the table, Kumar’s form could prove decisive. His latest milestone is not just a reflection of longevity, but of sustained excellence in one of cricket’s most demanding formats.

With key fixtures still to come, his experience and consistency may yet shape how far Bengaluru can go this season.
