Scrivens and Griffith Steer Essex to Another Statement Win
Lancashire 251-7, Essex 252-5 — Essex won by five wickets
Essex Women continued their impressive rise in the Women’s Metro Bank One Day Cup with a convincing five wicket victory over defending champions Lancashire Women at Chelmsford.
Chasing 252 for victory, Essex once again found stability and authority at the top of the order as captain Grace Scrivens and Cordelia Griffith produced a record breaking opening stand for the county in the competition.
Their partnership of 128 from 153 deliveries eclipsed the previous best they had set only days earlier against Yorkshire and firmly tilted the contest in Essex’s favour.
Scrivens crafted a composed 74 while Griffith added an assured 61 as the hosts built the perfect platform. By the time both departed, the chase was already under firm control and Jodi Grewcock maintained the momentum with a brisk 58 from 57 balls to carry Essex home with three overs remaining.
Earlier, Lancashire recovered admirably from a cautious start thanks to a commanding third wicket stand between Eve Jones and skipper Ellie Threlkeld. Jones fell agonisingly short of a century with 98 while Threlkeld contributed 51 in a partnership worth 127.
Their efforts guided Lancashire to 251-7 from 50 overs, with Sophie Munro and Scrivens both claiming two wickets. Yet on a day dominated by confident batting displays, Essex always appeared a step ahead as they secured a third successive victory.
Bouchier Brilliance Lights Up Southampton
Somerset 281-6, Hampshire 282-5 — Hampshire won by five wickets
Hampshire Women produced one of the standout batting performances of the season as Maia Bouchier powered her side to a thrilling five wicket victory against Somerset Women in Southampton.
The England batter unleashed a dazzling innings of 143, the highest score of her professional career, in a chase that crackled with attacking intent from the outset.
Bouchier’s knock eclipsed an outstanding century earlier in the afternoon from Somerset opener Bex Odgers whose elegant 133 had placed the visitors in a commanding position.
Odgers reached her maiden professional hundred in style and shared an unbroken stand of 150 with Chloe Skelton as Somerset closed on an imposing 281-6.
That total appeared more than competitive but Hampshire had other ideas. Backed by England head coach Charlotte Edwards watching on, Bouchier and Freya Kemp tore into the bowling attack with a breathtaking partnership of 149 that shifted the momentum entirely.
Bouchier combined power with poise throughout her innings and Hampshire surged to their target at 282-5 to secure a fourth win from six matches in emphatic fashion.
Villiers Stars With Bat and Ball as Durham Triumph at Edgbaston
Warwickshire 289-6, Durham 290-5 — Durham won by five wickets
Durham Women enjoyed a memorable afternoon at Edgbaston as Mady Villiers delivered a superb all round performance to guide her side to a five wicket victory over Warwickshire Women.
Warwickshire posted a formidable 289-6 after several batters made significant contributions. Davina Perrin led the way with 69 while Charis Pavely and Nat Wraith both passed fifty with knocks of 55 and 54 respectively.
Villiers proved the key figure with the ball, returning figures of 3-38 to prevent the hosts from pushing beyond the 300 mark. Her influence only grew stronger during the chase.
The 27 year old then produced a magnificent maiden century for Durham, blasting 106 from just 86 balls in a fearless innings packed with authority and clean striking. Villiers seized control of the contest and transformed a demanding chase into a winning position.
Emily Windsor provided the finishing touch with a calm unbeaten 85 as Durham reached 290-5 with more than four overs remaining to complete a polished and confident run chase.
