Vitality Blast Women Preview

  • Leaders Surrey travel to Hampshire

The Women’s Vitality Blast is up and running, and with four games this evening in the main division. The Women’s T20 Blast is set up differently to the Men’s version. There are two tiers of nine teams. However there is no promotion/relegation. Counties can be ‘promoted’ and ‘relegated’ between the two tiers based on their performances and periodic restructuring.

Durham Women v Warwickshire Bears Women

Warwickshire will be looking to pick their first win of this T20 Blast season, as they travel to the Banks Homes Riverside to take on Durham. Despite being joint bottom, the leading run scorer in the Blast is Abbey Freeborn with 158 in her three innings with a strike rate of 143.63. Durham have the joint third highest wicket taker in this season Blast in Australian Heather Graham with five wickets from their two games.

Lancashire Thunder v Somerset Women

The Thunder are also looking for that first win, however they face an unbeaten Somerset, who have won three in three. Three of the top 10 run scorers play for Somerset. Anika Learoyd is second with 156 runs with a strike rate of 123.80, then Sophie Luff is fourth with 120 runs and 166.66 strike rate. Seventh is Rebecca Odgers with 101 runs and 140.27 strike rate.

In between Learoyd and Luff is the Thunder’s Australian Meg Lanning, who has 121 runs and 170.42 strike rate. Niamh Holland of Somerset is the joint second highest wicket taker this season so far with six wickets.

Hampshire Hawks Women v Surrey Women

The Hawks will want to upset the form side in Surrey Women, as they look to double up after their win on Tuesday. However Surrey is top of the table with a superior Net Run Rate over the Blaze, who don’t play today.

Surrey Women are unbeaten in three so far. They also have the leading wicket taker in Ryana MacDonald-Gay, who has taken nine wickets so far. Georgia Adams of Hampshire is joint second with 6 wickets. On the batting side, Ella McCaughan leads the way for Hampshire with 99 runs with a 120.73 strike rate. Just behind her is Bryony Smith of Surrey with 97 runs with an impressive 194.00 strike rate.

Yorkshire Women v Essex Women

Yorkshire currently sit bottom of the table, having not won any of their three games yet this season. Essex won their first game,beating Warwickshire Bears Women. However, they lost their last game to Hampshire Hawks Women.

The Netherlands all-rounder Sterre Kalis is the leading run scorer for Yorkshire with 116 runs with a strike rate of 117.17. Just behind her is Cordelia Griffith, who has 108 runs at a strike rate of 163.63. With the ball, both Kate Coppack for Essex and Jess Jonassen have four wickets each.
