Tazmin Brits Ton Keeps South Africa In World Cup Semi-Final Race

Tazmin Brits has turned South Africa’s Women’s T20 World Cup campaign from a repair job into a live semi-final threat.

The opener’s unbeaten 114 from 69 balls powered South Africa to 208/1 against the Netherlands in Bristol, before the Dutch reply was held to 120/8. The ICC confirmed it was South Africa’s highest total at a Women’s T20 World Cup and their third straight win after an opening defeat to Australia.

Brits turns net run rate into South Africa’s weapon

Brits struck 15 fours and three sixes, adding 121 for the first wicket with Laura Wolvaardt before Annerie Dercksen’s 37 from 16 balls drove the innings beyond 200. The late acceleration mattered almost as much as the win: South Africa’s net run rate moved from -0.546 to +0.734.

That shift keeps Group A alive before the final round of fixtures. India and Australia still sit directly in the qualification picture, but South Africa now have a route that depends not only on points, but also on the kind of margin they created here.

There was resistance from Sanya Khurana and Phebe Molkenboer, whose 58-run opening stand briefly gave the Netherlands a platform. Ayabonga Khaka then dragged the chase back under South African control with 3/19.

South Africa had already entered this match needing a net-run-rate statement. Brits supplied the statement, the score and the timing.
