Marizanne Kapp has made South Africa’s semi-final route clearer than the table suggests.
England enter Thursday night’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final at The Oval unbeaten, restored by Nat Sciver-Brunt’s return and backed by a home record at the ground that has not yet been dented in women’s T20Is.
But Kapp is the South African variable that stops this becoming a straight form-line call. Cricket.com.au’s match preview notes that she is the leading wicket-taker in domestic 20-over and Hundred matches at The Oval, while her tournament has already produced 119 runs at 39.66, a strike rate of 148.75, and seven wickets at 14.14.
Kapp Gives South Africa Their Oval Lever
That matters because South Africa cannot simply wait for another Tazmin Brits surge or Annerie Dercksen cameo. England’s top order has been more settled, Australia are already waiting in the final, and Sciver-Brunt’s fitness confirmation from the ICC removes the obvious selection anxiety around the hosts.
Kapp’s value is different. She gives Laura Wolvaardt a new-ball threat, a middle-overs control option and a proven pressure batter if the chase tightens.
Her unbeaten 81 and 2-27 against India, highlighted by the ICC as one of South Africa’s group-stage turning points, is the template. If Kapp owns her Oval match-up, England’s perfect group record suddenly carries much less protection.
