Pakistan captain Fatima Sana faces ICC action after fiery Shafali Verma send-off

The Pakistan captain was handed a demerit point and fined by the International Cricket Council following an animated send-off directed at India opener Shafali Verma in Dubai.

The all-rounder breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers actions that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a dismissed batter.

This marks her second disciplinary offence within a 24-month period, adding to a previous demerit point received during a Twenty20 fixture against Ireland last August.

Mounting Pressure Amid Batting Collapse

The disciplinary misstep illustrates the compounding on-field pressure shouldered by the young skipper.

While she secured three dismissals during the Women’s Asia Cup clash, her bowling attack was left defending a record-low total of 55 after exposing a severe vulnerability against elite spin.

India youngsters Shree Charani and Prema Rawat dismantled the middle order, leaving the opposing bowlers with zero margin for error.

Verma was caught and bowled for 12 during the chase, prompting the bowler to gesture directly towards the pavilion.

The stark contrast between individual effort and systemic top-order failure drew immediate scrutiny, particularly amid off-field debates over a potential future multilateral cricket calendar.

“Okay, you are showing her the way out. Your entire team just scored 55 runs, and now you’re sending Shafali Verma back,” commentator Vivek Razdan said.

India completed the chase inside nine overs to seal a comprehensive seven-wicket victory.

The squad face Hong Kong on Monday to conclude their group stage fixtures in Dubai.
